Hi everyone! I just want to chime in and share a piece of advice I read when first started chickens. I don’t remember if it was on BYC or somewhere else…. Someone suggested when your chicks are training to go to roost at night, it’s helpful to sing to them, then they’ll associate the song with roosting and it might help in odd situations.

Let me tell you, it works! I sing a chicken version of “Good Night Ladies “ (I think from the Music Man) When I want to close them up and someone is straggling, I sing their little song and the chicken just turns around and wanders up the ramp into the hen house! Almost like they are hypnotized. It’s gone that way so many times it can’t be a coincidence!
Wanted to share because I saw a post on the Facebook group from someone new to chickens that came with her property (but comments were disabled by the time I saw it)

Does anyone else sing to their chickens? What do you sing?

I've sang for the chicks, so when I walk up, they know I'm coming and don't scare the bejesus out of them. The two macaw parrots know parts of, "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know," so I try to get them involved too. Sometimes I'm trying to practice a rock song I sing with hubby, so they occasionally get that experience.

Hubby plays guitar, and in the summer, he's singing country western to the free-rangers out from the deck. They crowd around him, but I think it's more that they're wondering if he's going to throw out some scrambled eggs, as they know he's the scrambled egg guy. :)
