Chicken bleachers (roosts)

Time to design my roosts. I have a tight space for the night time roosts and I'd like to give them access to the "attic" above to get to another nest without pooping on their neighbors below. Does anyone like the "bleacher" style? Do you feel you get more height/ space?

I'm not sure how much space to give my Araucana's when they grow up. My husband is planning on a 2x2 for the perches.

Not sure what you mean of bleachers, but I am imagining just the regular ladder type that has a row 12 in and 12 in up per each roost.

As for perches though, if they are standards, often it is recomended to use 2x4s with the fat side up because they sit on their feet rather than grasp.

One more reason for using the fat side of a 2x4 is if your in a cold climate it forces the bird to sit flat on its feet protecting their toes from the cold.

What I mean by bleachers was the stair step way I've seen them set up. But after my dad looked at the inside of my coop... it may only be possible to set up one long one roost.

I had been hoping to section the messy area into a smaller block... oh well!
