My seven month old ameraucona hen who just started laying this month and the first egg had a little bit of blood and agh after egg the blood keeps getting worse and I don’t know what to do. She has laid about ten eggs now. I checked her vent and I hang see anything wrong with it, there is just dry blood around it. I think she only bleeds when she lays an egg. What’s wrong with her, is this normal?

Is there anything I can do?
It may or may not help, but making sure that they always have lots of really clean fresh water. Yours is probably just doing that because she is new at laying, but the water situation seems like it really affects their egg laying to me. Mine like ice water, LOL!

That’s a lot of blood though, hopefully she will be OK.

Hopefully, it gets better soon. There could always be some other problem, such as vent pecking by the other chickens, so I would keep an eye on her around her laying time. Make sure they have enough room and have enough nest boxes.
