Chicken boredom

I have been reading that People get flock blocks to keep the chickens from being bored. Is that a real thing? I mean I understand spoiling your pets, but I don't really see my chickens as pets. I know that many do. I see them as breakfast creators, and one day, lunch. I do try to care for them the best that I can. Quality feed and good nutrition.

So is this boredom thing for real or are people just spoiling there chickens? Does this promote good egg laying and quality meat? thanks

Bored chickens get into trouble. Trouble such as pecking each other, sometimes to the point of death and egg eating. Keeping a chicken distracted with other things to peck besides each other and eggs keeps them outta trouble.

I think some are designed to help reduce amonia in the coop too.
