Chicken breed recommendations

What are some breeds you recommend not only for egg laying but also for being friendly? We are getting 4 more chicks next week and still aren’t sure what breeds to get. Any recommendations? (We need family friendly chicken breeds)

I personally love barred rocks, buff orpingtons, and Welsummers. All of these breeds are good egg layers and very family friendly!

Buff orpingtons are a great choice dual purpose and mine don't mind me going in the coop or picking them up. They don't even mind the kids.

Some of my bantams are like puppies if large eggs and big birds aren’t high on the priorities list. My Japanese, Cochins, Easter Eggers and Old English Game have great personalities and love to hang out around me nearly as much as I like spending time with them.

Where are you located? Location and climate (temperature) are always important factors in breed choice

A polish chicken for sure! Mine lays a small white egg everyday and loves to be picked up and cuddled by the kids.
