I have recently acquired 6 chicks from mypetchicken.com. One passed away, but luckily the other girls look great. I am new to owning chickens and would like to acquire 2 more, but I know it is unsafe to ship less than 3. I would really like non-bearded showgirl silkies, polish (preferabley black with white crowns), or I would love a sultan. I don't think I can keep a sultan outside during cold ct winters, but does anyone know for sure? Also can i keep polish chickens in ct or is it too cold for them? I know that i need to pick them up in person, but i don't mind driving for up to 4 hrs. Does anyone know where I can acquire some? Does the uconn 4-h poulty show sell chicks? Thank you for any info provided.

You might want to check the 'where are you' section on here and find a thread for your area (we have one for NY, for example) - post on the thread that is closest to you and maybe someone will have or know who would have what you are looking for.. I don't know of any big hatcheries in NY (at least not near me), but I know lots of us folks that hatch our own..

There's also a 'wanted' section in the auctions, I believe..

Hi,
I am in Central CT, and I have silkies and polish. They do fine outside if you have a coop for them. But I do move them into the garage when we have minus temperature in temporary rabbit hutches, and then put them back out again when the temperature goes back up.

Also A S Labieniec in Kensington is going to have their annual Chick Day on April 16 this year. They will have all kinds of chicks, as well as some pullets. They should have some polish as well.Last year, they had a couple of them, and they went very fast. Give them a call to find out. Google them.
Hope this helps.

Hi , I'm in CT and in the Fairfield County area. We are new to chickens as well. We built our coop and purchased our chickens at a local Benedict's. We purchased White Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds. I'd be happy to chat with you on Facebook or by email:
