A fox got one of my chickens today, I saw it run away through the window. Crazily, I was able to run fast enough to scare the fox away, and when I screamed “let it go!” She dropped my hen, who is thankfully still alive, and bolted. I feel so lucky! Anywho, anybody know how to care for an injured hen? She has two semi-deep cuts that I am able to see, both of which are bleeders. Also, almost all the feathers from one of her wings are gone and she lost quite a bit of feathers on her back too. So far I washed the wounds with a damp paper towel, put a chicken saddle on her to account for the major feather loss, and put her in a “cage” in my coop so she can see her friends but not be injured further. She seems drowsy, panting, and won’t eat or drink.

Flush the wounds with 50/50 mixture betadine and water, pat dry and then apply Blood Stop powder as needed. Blood Stop powder can be found at any feed store. I also recommend that you give her Poultry Nutri Drench orally with the eyedropper provided. Give her 2 drops in the morning and 2 drops in the evening. After the third day, reduce to one drop in the morning and one drop in the evening. Stop completely on the 7th day. Continue with comfort care and hopefully she'll recover soon. You can also try giving her wet feed to eat, like a mash.

Thank you so much!

Her skin around the wound areas is starting to turn green... I’ve been spraying it with an antibacterial spray- the greenish tone of her skin is starting to worry me

It might be best to get her started on Amoxicillin. Here's where you can purchase it:

I just came across this thread again and realized I neglected to reply! I followed your suggestion, along with a bit of research, and she healed up just fine! All my chickens have not been allowed to free range since, and no more incidents due to predators have occurred. Even thought it’s been a while, I still wanted to thank you
