Hi. I have 3 mixed breed Israeli hens. Rex, who is about 6 months older than the other two, is the "king" hen.

In the morning they all seem do do what I call singing. A light pluck, pluck, pluck with a louder longer PLLLUUUCCCKK at the end.

Now and then Rex does the plucking a bit louder and the lets out a huge "CAW" It almost sounds like a scream.

It is different than the warning sounds they make after laying an egg or seeing something dangerous.

Anyone have a clue as to why she does this?

Are you sure Rex isn't a king roo? Has she laid yet?

She is definitely a hen. Lays well and has even gone broody twice in her first year.
