Hi everyone,
I was giving my chicken antibiotics through a dropped into her mouth but i’m afraid maybe she might be choking on it now. She keeps lifting her neck and making a noise that sounds similar to a cough but no liquid is coming out. Is there anything I can do?? Please help

She may have aspirated some of the medication. Give her some time, see if it resolves. Aspirating the medication, or any liquid, can sometimes lead to aspiration pneumonia, so always best to not have it happen, but it does not always result in that. She may be just fine and may be able to clear it coughing. This may be helpful, how to give medications safely:

Depending on what medication you are using and it's form (liquid, capsule, pill) you can sometimes mix with coconut oil, freeze or refrigerate til firm, and then give like a pill. Lessens risk of aspiration.

She’s moving her head around but she’s standing still and starting to close her eyes a little bit. Is there anything I can do?

Can you see if there’s anything stuck in her beak? Try to massage her crop area gently. If there’s stuck food, gently remove with a tweezer and put a drop or two of olive oil to help soften if there’s an impaction in her crop. I read about another person who did that with their choking hen. Good luck! I lost one of my hens choking a few months ago.

So sorry to hear about your hen. Checked and didn’t see anything. She seems okay but her voice sounds raspy and she doesn’t seem as energetic
