So I've noticed that with chickens, different colors are usually kept separate. Like Silver Laced Wyndottes and Gold Laced Wyndottes. Are these treated as different breeds? If you breed a Labrador to another Lab, you get a Lab. Even if one parent is black and the other is yellow, and one of the puppies comes out chocolate. Is it like that with chickens? A Buff Brahma bred to a Light Brahma is still a Brahma? Or is Buff Brahma and Light Brahma separate breeds?

In short, breed is the shape of the bird. Variety is the color. If you keep silver laced wyandottes with gold laced wyandottes, you'll have wyandottes but the colors will be messed up.
Wyandotte is a breed, silver laced is a variety.
