Ok everyone, I need some help here again. The attached pictures are of a building on the property that we are buying that I would like to convert into my new coop. This is the first time I will be raising chickens (raised rabbits growing up) so, I need some guidence please.

The building is 21'x36' with 12' walls. It is of cinder block construction and wood rafters, concrete floor, 3 big windows, and a wooden sliding door at one end.

Please give me some of your ideas on what you would do to this building to make it a nice place for me and my new found friends.

I plan on raising about 100 chickens, with at least 25 of those being good layers that I will keep for eggs, and the rest I plan on raising and processing for meat.

The backside of the building is open grass with no trees, the others have trees and a driveway leading to it. I was thinking this would be the best building out of the three because it should provide a better shelter from predators.

Wish I could help with the posting pics thing, but I've only posted a pic once, and didn't do a very good job of it. But it does sound like a really cool building, and sounds like it would make a great coop. Can't wait to see pics....Paula

If you set up a pic account at a place like Photobucket.com, we can show you how to post.

Do you really want 100 birds the same age? Might be better to begin with 25 and add 25 a year as you build and learn. If you start with all those birds in production at the same time, they'll stop laying together too...

And I sure hope you'll visit our coop and run section! Lots of amazing ideas. Go slow, enjoy the process, learn, learn, learn...

No, I figured I would stagger the ages by a few months or so. That way I can always be doing a complete cycle and not have either feast or famon.

I am working on pics now, hopefully soon.
