My husband is in the process of building me a coop now...I drew out what I wanted, didn't use a premade design. Basically a giant rectangle, 32 feet long, 16 feet wide, divided down the middle. So, two 16x16 "rooms", one is the coop, enclosed, the other is the run, roofed but with wire all around. Entire run part has 2x8 boards around the bottom. Door between the coop and run, and a door on the front of the coop part. Coop part and entire roof covered with galvanized metal, which will eventually be painted. Used 4x4 posts, concreted in the ground, evenly spaced for support, also had to put some in the middle of the rooms to support the roof.
Only about 70% done, still have to build the dividing wall, put up roof supports, build doors, and put up all the metal. Have spent just over $1000 so far.
Eventually going to dig a trench all around the bottom of the entire structure, at the bottom of the walls on the outside, and fill with concrete to deter digging predators.
I should also mention that I stocked up on chicks before the coop was even started.
And I have the incubator full of eggs due the first week in May. So husband is really hustling to get it done, he's tired of chicks in the house lol.
