well im putting it into my goat pasture so i dont have a size requirement so how large of a space would i need for 15 birds? is it possible to build 2 story coops?
If you use your shoulder to give the door a shove, probably about 97 chickens (depending on volume)...
Okay...sorry, but that question just bugs me. I always picture the old time phone booths and the college kids trying to break records stuffing themselves inside. If you're concerned about the chickens being healthy/happy, then maybe 5 chickens. A run should be at least 50 sq. feet (for 5 birds), although more would be great!
If you're in a year round warm weather area (parts of Fl, Ca, Az, etc.), and they would for sure ONLY be using the coop for sleeping, then you could probably get by with another bird or two. But I wouldn't chance it, because overcrowding often results in bullying behavior.

If you live in a winter climate where there might be days they don't leave the coop then you want it to be big enough for them to have 2 sq ft of floor space to themselves and plenty of roosts. Otherwise you get a high humidity that requires too much ventilation for the temperature. I guess if you live in the south where it's warm and they get outside time it's not as big of a deal.
