So I was wondering what you guys would call this, I've noticed that when you expose hens to a new situation, they tend to do the "chicken dance" as I call it as part of establishing a pecking order.
So I have a new batch of chickens, they have been outside now for a few weeks confined to the run/coop, I have started letting them out slowly to get used to the outdoors, as I noticed with my last group when they are let out for the first time their behavior changes, like they are establishing a pecking order. They will come out, put their head down low, and do a little left and right head/neck dance, sometimes followed by a fluttering a foot or so in the air. Other times I notice they stand up real tall and raise their feathers on their neck and kinda stare each other down.
It's interesting that these hens which have been raised together since a few days old are thrown into a new environment and suddenly start doing this behavior......
Who else notices similar things?
