Chicken Died today. Worried about rest

HI all, my Monster died today. She has no signs of illness, but she did quit laying a few weeks ago. since she was so late in laying I just figured she was going through a stage again. Then this morning she was not moving much and her breathing was labored and a half hour later she had moved to a different spot and died. No signs of labored breathing yesterday. I'm so sad and also scared that the other hens might catch what she had. :-(

hi. just wondering if you checked her for being egg bound? that could have been a possible reason ? just guessing here. I'm so sorry for your loss! that is sad news.

The only way to be sure what was wrong is to have a necropsy done. If you can find a vet in your area to do that. Otherwise, you will never know for sure. It very well could have been an isolated incident with this hen and no others like eggbound as stated. If she had stopped laying she may also have laid internally another serious problem.

Yeah, I did check her for being egg-bound, but could not feel anything.. everything was soft. I checked her several times during the last 3 weeks. :-( Not even a vet here that will LOOK at a chicken. I even asked the vet I bring my dogs to if she KNEW of one an she didn't. She did have a little bit of diarrhea, but nothing unusual and nothing major.
