chicken diet? what is correct?

Hey, not but a few weeks ago I got me 4 more chickens.
OK what I do is when I let them out in the morning i would
go get some corn, oyster shell, chicken grit, laying mesh,
and any appropriate table scraps. mix that up and feed it
to the chickens.

while i was gone to a friends house my mom took care of my chickens but she poored corn and mesh in the auto feeder
to last them a FEW days. I came home yester day, let my
flock out and saw how grumpy they were or they just was
slow.
Then i saw that 1 of my girls was making a gargle sound!?
2day i opened her mouth and saw nothing???
HELP!!! how can i win my chickens back to happy? and that
gargle sound is so anoying!!!

Cook em up some scrambled eggs for the protein and give them a head of cabbage to peck on and enjoy. Make sure they have good fresh water. AND heat if there is not any in there. Were they totally out of food? What happened exactly to make the gurgling sounds and what do you mean you saw nothing when you opened their beak.

Sounds like your little girls got starved out a little and maybe are upset with you. I would give them a little extra TLC and a treat of some sort. I don't know if you have access to this stuff in December, but my little girls seem to love the leaves from Brocoli plants, they just go nuts...

Anything like that, something they will consider a treat... but no candy...heehee..

Try giving then a couple of apples if you have some and whatever xtra protien that you can. Are they getting grit as they need that if you are giving corn or scratch .

I donno about the gargle sound but they should have:

1.) A dish for grit
2.) A dish for oyster shell
3.) A dish for layer mash *Ok to mix in maybe 25% corn/scratch

They know what they need, giving it to them all in one dish/mix could be throwing off their nutritional needs.

Plus it's natural for them to scratch around for seeds, bugs, and other food, hence the term scratch, so no worries just toss a cupful on the ground.

uh oh!! sounds like i have been doing wrong! i have tried to seperate it and all they do is eat corn. won't a kid eat the pie before the meal or just not eat the meal? my poor hen is always making that sound when she inhales i think.
