Check out the door my husband built for our chicken house:

The door slides to open and close. We have 30 chickens, so more than one can get in or out at a time. Isn't it great? I'm so proud of him.

Looks good - Might want to consider a lock for it. When it's easy for you to open, it's easy for a raccoon, too.

That's a really smart idea, to make one that is extra wide. They do all want to jam through it at the same time in the morning, don't they?

What did you use to make it slide? I was thinking of doing something similar. The only thought I had was to use the things like what are on drawers. (sorry cant think of what they are called.)
