Chicken door too big or small?

We are currently building our coop. Our buff orpingtons will be here in a few weeks. I had him ( the hubby) make the chicken door 12 x18 inches because the chickens are a large breed. Is the door big enough or too big? We are new to the back yard chicken thing. I plan to post the pictures of the coop as soon as we are finished with it.

That sounds big enough...that's bigger than mine. Mine is a 12x12, it's on the small side (DH made the coop when they were smaller) they go in and out fine....they have to duck their heads a little though....

That sounds fine. Mine is 14" wide and 18" tall, works well.

That is a perfect sized door for heavy breeds of chicken.
