Ready for this?

I noticed our flock all pecking at something in the leaves. I looked over and it was a baby mole our cat caught and left.
The hens were picking it up and checking it out, when one of our chickens, got a hold of it in her mouth, tipped her head back, and glugged it down her throat WHOLE. CHUG A LUG. I dry heaved for like 10 minutes, and afterwords thought how gross it would be if we found a mole skeleton in one of their eggs. The Sci Fi chicken episode just debuted.

How gross is that! Can anyone top it?

No, definitely can't top that!!

I've only seen mine down a whole lizard and I thought that was amazing, and kind of sad.

May as well get used to it. Chickens are naturally omnivorous and a mole would be quite the hen treat. Mice, moles, lizards, snakes, frogs, toads, a million kind of insects, they're all good. This is their natural feed.

There are no mice around my house and yard...I have mice catching/eating chickens and ducks. Its an awsome sight to behold!!!!! Gulp Gulp Gulp....AAAHHHHHHHH.....

You be the judge of whether my tale ranks up with the mole-eaters! Last Sunday we're working in the backyard, letting the 'girls' free range before bedtime....heard a high pitched squeaking and saw our Golden Comet pullet (11 mo.) running around with a LIVE vole (tiny, mouselike crittur, stubby tail)--she'd caught it while scratching in the semi-composted leaf pile in the fencerow. She was thrilled, running around with four of her coopmates chasing and the poor little rodent squeaking...and yep, she pecked it to death and ate it. Gag! I'm a softie and would have saved it and relocated to the state park behind us...but this all went down in less than 60 seconds. Gross! Reminded me of Jurassic Park a bit. And not 5 minutes later, the other Comet (we have two) had a good sized toad in her beak--that guy I did save (I like toads and she wasn't running around)--the toad was still halfway hibernating and suffered no damage, I don't think she would have eaten him (not tasty like frogs), but I do think she would have killed him trying. I put him in a hole and covered it with a log, checked a couple of times, by the next day he was out and on his way, warmer weather helped.
Don't know if it's just ours, or the breed, but they are the top hens in the coop (not too nice to the rest), but they also lay the largest eggs...so guess they'll stay a bit longer!

and I think it's funny just watching them eat spaghetti. I can't imagine, I would have been in tears from laughing so hard! I always thought they were just mini dinosaurs, this confirms it!

I've seen misguided gophers pop their heads out of the ground inside my chicken pen. The chickens come running and yank the poor animal outta his hole and eat him in about 5 seconds flat! Gophers are a pretty good size too, so they don't exactly get swallowed whole, it's a bit messy and piranha-like. They must be pretty tasty though.
