Hi all im sure this topic has already been discussed somewhere but have been looking and cant find the info im after, so the story is a week or so ago as i was driving along i see a sign saying free range eggs £2.20 per dozen, so me being me not to turn my nose up at a bargain went and got some, i picked up a few blues, a few whites and a few of what i would call normal coloured hen eggs, but before id got home id already decided i was going to stick a couple in my incubator and see what happens, well one of these eggs is developing and i just wondered if there was any way of knowing if there are certain chickens that lay certain coloured eggs or is it just a random thing, sorry if i sound dumb but i know theres a lot of clever people on here that could maybe shed some light on this for me.

Yes, you can usually tell by the color of the chicken's earlobes what color egg they will lay, but there's really no way to tell what kind of chicken laid a particular brown or white egg. With blue or green, you know it's some kind of Araucana or Ameraucana related bird (most likely an "Easter Egger" mix).

Ahh thank you for the quick reply,, just trying to get some sort of idea what i could end up with, all adds to the dun of it i guess, thanks again for the info

Excellent il remember to do that, assuming i manage to hatch the little guy, Also cant wait to see the wifes face as she said she only wants ducks in the garden as she has a fear of chickens
