Hi group - love this website and forum - been reading, reading, reading. I've been considering getting chickens for a year or so...done a lot of research, just trying to get the coop built (had other priorities - I know, crazy - what's more important that getting my chickens!?!).
I live on a half-acre in an unincorporated area in the west burbs of Chicago, IL. I have farmette dreams, but don't know if I'll see those come to fruition until I retire - I'm 46, single, have a bf of six months that may turn more serious, on an adoption waiting list for a baby girl. I love my job as a marketing person at a trade association. Somehow I can't imagine having a farmette and working full time - being able to manage it. Don't know how it'll all play out, just have to see. Trying to make one dream come true one at a time. I have two kitties (Stinker and Snuggles) and last year I adopted two bunnies - Sparkles and Snooper (mother and daughter) from the local shelter.
I'm not a builder and am going to hire someone to build a coop for me. I'm still trying to understand exactly what I need and how that translates into how I should build my coop here in the west burbs of Chicago. It's like I can't envision everything people suggest. Well, more research and questions I guess until I fully understand it.
