Chicken Eye Issues / Illness / Death

Last week I found a hen that was almost dead in the coop after being fine earlier that morning. She died the next day.

I thought it was just a one off but now I hear one adult hen sneezing and three of my pullets have crusty eyes with bubbles and fluid leaking from them. One of the pullets has a milky looking fluid leaking from one eye. I introduced the pullets from a breeder 10 days ago, I’m guessing they brought something in with them.

What illness am I most likely dealing with here and what’s the best treatment so I don’t lose the whole flock? The pullets and the affected hen are separated currently. They’re eating and drinking still but more sleepy than usual. I’m putting antibiotic ointment on the eyes.

The symptoms you describe, and the bubbles in the eye are usually MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) , treatment is usually Tylan or Tylosin. That will treat the symptoms, but it's a chronic respiratory disease that your birds will carry, symptoms can return in times of stress.
