So my DH got new chickens last night, 5 hens and a roo, he decided to put the two bantams (mating couple) with his other black bantam roo. I told him it would not be a great idea and he went ahead and did it anyway. Long story short his favorite roo is now in my kitchen all bloody. Orginally we thought he had lost an eye, now it looks like it is still there, just has a lot of blood under the eye lid. We washed him up the best we could, and DH said tonight he will move the other two down with everyone else and Shadow can have his home back.

Is there anything else i can do for this guy? Should we try to get the blood out from under his eye lids?

He is safe, warm, well fed and watered in the kitchen right now.

Thanks!

I use polysporin or some other antbacterial salve (bagbalm etc) for injuries and then seperate them from the flock until they are healed. He will be fine...

Definitely separate him; you don't want him hurt again because he can't fight back. I'm not sure what to do if he's bleeding under the lid... If it's serious he might be blind in that eye. It's good that he's eating and drinking.

I hope your husband learns from his mistakes!

Well, came home from work and he looks fine, like nothing ever happened. He must have just gotten a lot of blood in there and that was irritating it. The chicken he fought against and his wife will be in a coop all to themselves from now on. ::shakes head:: hopefully DH learned the lesson (poor chicken).
