I like to let my backyard chickens out in the morning and afternoons. They stay in the backyard for a while, but because we don't have a fence they always end up wandering to the front lawn. I was wondering if there was any way to keep them in the back without a fence.

We Freerange ours all the time except at night when we lock them in the coop. But like Redsoxs said, basically no. I have them fenced in but they still get out front and i have to try and chase them back in. The best thing you can do is put all their food and water in the back where you want them to be, and if you feed them treats out of your hand, always feed them back there that way they stay there thinking you will bring out treats every now and them.

I had a problem with mine wandering on my neighbors property. Whenever I noticed they were over there I shook the scratch can and called them giving them treats in our yard. I did this consistently and I see they rarely wander over there. They now hang out under the lilac by my back door and beg treats when anyone comes out the door. I also found that keeping a waterer up by the house where I want them to be helps too. Kind of a pavlovian thing!
Good Luck!
