I'm planning on starting my flock this summer (if planning and zoning gives us permission). Heres my question: If I get my birds at a couple of months old from a local breeder will they be as friendly as if I had started with chicks? I want my chickens to be pets as much as egg layers. Thanks.

From my "vast" experience of nearly 1 year, I'd say sure!
I got my pullets at 9wks old and they are now my BPFF <Best Poultry Friends Forever

They did spend the first few months running from me like I was Colonel Sanders, but treats won them over.

Now they run towards me

I'd try to get them from a breeder that has been handling them a lot. We got ours at 4-5 months old from a guy and his 2 young sons who spent lots of time with the chicks. Our ladies are very friendly and love to be petted.

my 2 week chicks hate getting picked up( run! it`s a hand!) but enjoy being held and will perch on my arm or hand if I don`t move too much:) My bantoms are a bit wild but they don`t mind me too much.

cool. I'm not above bribery. I'll do what it takes. Thanks everyone.
