Hi there,
I have 2 easter eggers and one australorp. I had another easter egger that I got from a breeder (along with the australorp) and she started sneezing a funny honking type sneeze for about 3 or 4 weeks - only slightly progressing. She was eating fine, and kept laying so I wasn't that concerned. She started going to bed earlier than the others so I separated her inside, and gave her 2 days of antibiotics. I really felt she wasn't thriving inside like that, so I put her back outside with the others. She seemed fine again, she would just go to bed early. She was eating and drinking fine. Anyway, we went out of town last weekend Friday night, came home Sunday morning, and she was dead. I feel terrible.

Now one of my original easter eggers started going to bed early tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have heard sneezing, but not as bad as the first one, and I couldn't tell which one it was coming from. She is still laying.

Previous history is that we had an orphington that died of Merek's. She was given to us as a stray and she died about 6 months ago. I took her to the vet but there was no way to save her. The two easter eggers were vaccinated, but not sure about the australorp. On a side note, the australorp has stopped laying (she had only just started laying - eggs were small) and her bottom is bald. You can only see the bald spot when she poos.

Any advice is much appreciated. I really don't want to lose any more...

Thanks!

Welcome to our forum!! I'm sorry something like this brought you here. Your chickens may have a chronic disease, and a necropsy maay be the only way to be sure, that or testing by your state vet or local ag college. Most regular vets aren't that familiar with chickens.
