I've had chickens for 4.5 years averaging 6 pullets/hens. Currently 8.
At first I bought 5 lb bags of Poultry grit and Oyster Shells.
After that I bought 25 and 50 lb bags of grit and shells.
I am on my second bag of each and they are about 3/4 full.
Soil conditions, free ranging time and feed type and treats if any will affect consumption of grit.
Whether you feed a Layers feed or a All-Flock feed will affect Oyster Shell consumption considerably.
A lot less Oyster Shells are needed with a Layers feed.
I haven't fed a Layers feed in 3 years. So my chickens Oyster Shell consumption is excessive compared to feeding a Layers feed. GC
