Chicken grit

Hello everyone

can anyone tell me some things I can use as chicken grit.? And is sort of cheap.?

If your chickens are free range they will find their own grit out in the field/pasture. If you have a gravel drive way they will use the little rocks and pebbles. Make sure there aren't chemicals on whatever type of rock you use.

I have some sand in my yard i use that! U can pick up 50# sand at a hardware store someplace like ace. Its about $6 for the 50# bag

Are you sure they will find the rocks that's so weird that they know what to look for. I let them free range a couple hours a day. Okay just regular sand.? Not like gravel or construction sand.?

A play sand will work fine they also like to bathe in it!

At sand really.!? I thought it was too fine so I bought just regular construction rocky sand and I bought a bag of rock/pebbles gravel as well.!

Thats perfectly fine as well they can pick the size they prefer! Dont worry they arent to picky!

Check the label of the construction sand my brother in law just informed me that some contain chemicals where as play sand is washed for childrens safety!

I live in Idaho - the high desert. I walk along railroad tracks and find old red ant hills. The little bits of rock they gather are just the perfect size.
