Does anyone know any hatcheries that shipping prices are not too expensive? I have been looking and lots of hatchery prices for shipping are expensive.

That's because the post office charges a lot for shipping and only the post office ships live animals.
Keep in mind that they are responsible for the safe delivery of live animals. Without them, we would have to drive across the country to pick up chickens in person. That would be more expensive.

Welcome to BYC!

Maybe instead of doing the hatchery/shipping thing, you could find someone local that has birds for sale. If you check on your state thread, you may also find breeders not far from you.

If I'm not mistaken, you may have asked about buying chicks at a state fair (was that you?) and a member suggested checking with your local 4-H group. I thought that was a good idea, wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've never personally ordered from Hoover Hatchery, but I have a good friend who liked to order from them because they are so inexpensive, and he's been happy with their birds and service. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.

Yes, I did and they said they don't sell their pullets. Only the grown ups after the fair. The reason I was asking is because there is almost no other way because lots of the hatcheries are running out chicks.
