New to the chicken world, and we have 1 cockrell and 10 pulletts. They are all 20 weeks old.
We have 2 Crested Cream Legbars, 5 lavender orpingtons, and 4 black copper marans. The rooster is a LO.
Well, one of the lavender orpingtons seems to be his top girl. She had her tail missing about a month ago, but it is growing back and still not sure where it went.
But, she is now the top female and let's it be known. She pecks to get everyone moving to where they need to be if they seem to not be moving quick enough. Not rough... but a guidance.
But one of our CCL's seems to be a target for her. The CCL is the sweetest thing ever and is the one that runs to us the most when we go in the run. But the top girl LO seems to have something against her. When we feed in the morning, she runs at her to leave. And Spot (the CCL) runs away. We end up having to feed her separately so she can eat... and even then she is coming around to try and stop her. If the LO comes near us and Spot comes to us.. she will run her away from us. If they are going in the coop at night, the LO will block the door and not let her in. Once I move the LO out of the way, she runs in and pecks at her as she finds a place to lay.
I put my arm in between them one day so I could pet Spot, and the LO pecked me because she was so frustrated that she couldn't get to Spot... who was closer to me. (Her being close to us seems to annoy the LO too).
I just want to understand if this is bully behavior... or just establishing heirarchy. No one has been hurt or anything... yet. And my concern is that it could lead to that if it is not just the hierarchial situation.
