My chicken has started to just sit in her nest all day and all night, not coming out. Is this normal? She doesn't have an egg in there, and there shouldn't be any other reason.

But she stopped laying eggs completely? it is a bit cold outside, but she's never stopped for more than a few days.

when she is broody she wont lay i believe . try to stick your hand near her and if she pecks at you or puffs up you know she is broody . she doesnt sound sick to me

*read here in the forum just recently that if you stuff a little bag of frozen peas under em that they'll get up pretty quick!!

Sasha, what does she do when you take her out of the nest box? This is an indicator if something is going on with her or if she is broody. Give details so we can help you further, if necessary. thanks.

When I take her out and put her on the ground she'll just walk around for a little bit, sometimes eat and then go's right back into the nest. She lets me touch her and pick her up, she starts crying out and puffing when the other two chickens come to her nest, but she's fine with me being there. She doesn't really make much sound, she just sits there.
