Hello everyone,

Recently i realised that one my chickens cannot walk normally or stand normally, she is always kinda standing up. Here is a photo:

Her cheeks are also rock solid and heavy, which means that it is so heavy she can’t stand up normally. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Also another issue, my chickens stopped laying eggs completely, I got hens of various ages and a rooster, and each hen layed 1 egg each 1-2 days. However they over a period of like 2 weeks gradually lost the ability to lay eggs. Could this be some sort of parasite?

Thank you,
Francisco Santana

Egg laying can be affected by parasites, but if it’s cold in your area, it could explain why they’ve stopped laying. If you’re worried about parasites you can add chili flakes into your chicken feed and it should help. Chickens can’t taste the spice. My chickens usually stop laying for a few weeks in the winter or when they molt.

Have you felt her abdomen at all to check if she’s egg bound? That would be my first guess, but I’ve never dealt with anything like that before.

Thanks for advice for the parasites. And yes after some other research can almost say for sure she is eggbound… Probably because they stopped layong eggs for so long. These hens last years always laid during summer and winter. But the decline started during the summer. I have 0 eggs for more than a month from 14 hens who usually laid every day of every season…
