On the windy MA/NH border
hi all! long time since i've been here.
the girls are in a different coop than usual, and one has gotten herself wedged under the laying box. the theory "she got in she must be able to get out" doesn't seem to be working.

there is only about 4 inches of space in the largest opening. 4 inches by a few feet. a large, narrow opening.

i've tried her in several different configurations, but i can't get her out. she is being surprisingly cooperative. the pelvis seems wider than 4 inches?

which way is a chicken narrowest???? should i butter her? haha

she is a full grown white leghorn.

i'm thinking on her back feet first

didn't get anywhere. now i'm thinking sideways.
gave her a little food and water.

my flock usually free ranges and roosts in the barn. but the bobcat has been reducing numbers. so i stuck them in this coop that isn't perfected, but has an enclosed run.

to top it off, we are having a flood. i'm running out of dry underwear trying to help this girl.

sort of feel like nature is telling me to go on vacation.

I'm glad you were able to get her out.

How badly injured is the foot? Was it bleeding, broken, sprained? Photos may help.

Since she was stuck for a while, see that she is drinking well, offer her some food. She may be a little stressed.
Hopefully she just sprained the foot and will recover in a few days with some extra care.

Keep us posted.

i didn't have time to examine her closely yet.

the area around the laying boxes was protected by plastic fence cut to shape and stapled. she found a weak spot in that and forced her way in to the forbidden zone. then she must have gotten on top, fell behind (where the flap door is to get eggs) continued down between box and door, and then from there tunnled under. the whole way getting through spaces that were about 4 inches wide.

moral of the story: when constructing a chicken coop, anything that can go wrong, WILL
