One of my hens is wheezing like a kazoo or a squeaky toy. She started sneezing a bit. She's walking but is a little lethargic. I have some electrolytes in her water but I don't know what to do. I have some vetRx that I will give her at night because that's what the packet says.

Any help would be great!

Here's a video link:

She sounds like she has stridor, a sound they make when a small piece of feed, mucus, or swelling is partially blocking the airway, and she is also sneezing. She doesn’t seem in a lot of distress, so I would watch her. She might have early signs of a respiratory infection. Keep good air ventilation inside the coop and avoid dust. She may have a piece of feed stuck and is trying to clear her airway with the sneeze. This can clear in a few hours or overnight if it is just a stuck piece of food. Watch for mucus from her nostrils or beak, frequent swallowing of drainage inside her beak, head shaking, or watery/bubbly eye. Have you added any new birds to your flock recently or visited any poultry shows or swap meets?

I let them free range. I have fans in the coop and it has sand. The older group just got over fowl pox. She sounds mucusy now, she sounds like snores when she breaths. No drainage.

I gave them all electrolytes.

I did add pullets about 2 weeks ago. I will watch her inside and see what happens thank you!

If she has respiratory infection do I have to get her antibiotics?

And thanks for replying!

Have you seen any watery eyes or bubbles in either eye, sneeze, mucus from nostrils, head shaking in the new pullets? There are a number of respiratory diseases, some from viruses, and some bacterial such as MG or coryza. Tylosin powder for the water would be a treatment 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. Only treat the one(s) with symptoms. A virus such as infectious bronchitis will cause symptoms for 3 weeks or so, and go away in time unless complicated by a secondary infection. Antibiotics will not treat viruses.
