I've read the ordinance over and over for Haysville Kansas and I'm still unsure. Can anybody tell me if you can find a limit on chickens or if rooster are not allowed? Just trying to cover all bases before my new chicks get big enough for the coop. Thank you!

Were you ever able to find the answer? I'm interested is having chickens myself but can't seem to find anything for it either.

SO, this appears to be your code.

Assuming that's correct, you want to read Chapter II - Animals, giving particular attention to the Definitions. "Nuisance Animal", "Livestock", "Pet Animal", and "Rabbits, Poultry, and Domestic Fowl". Your municipality has carved things up oddly. Normally, chickens and other poultry/fowl are "Livestock", yet your definitions don't include them either there, or in the set aside within "Pet Animal" used for things like pot bellied pigs living in the house. You want to continue reading that chapter re: "At Large", so you know what happens when your chickens leave your property, or when the neighbors's cat/dog attacks your chickens while on your property...

Now you want to move on to "Zoning", and look to see if chickens are allowed within your property's zoning designation, either as a permitted or conditional use. Zoning A, AB, and AC all permit Agricultural Uses (including the raising of poultry) without conditional approval. (pages 37+). The other residential zonings do not appear to do so.

If you are still in the clear, check your subdivision, here (if any), to see if it is more restrictive.

Simple.

Here's what I'm finding, hoping I can have 8 chickens, but no roosters allowed.

2-105. Keeping livestock; distance from houses.
(c) No person shall keep any rabbits, poultry or domestic fowl, within thirty-five (35) feet of any residence or dwelling, other than the residence of the person keeping or maintaining such rabbits, poultry or fowl. Dwelling shall not include any school, hospital or similar institution.
(d) The construction or occupation of a new dwelling within thirty-five (35) feet of any location in or upon which rabbits, poultry, or domestic fowl have been continuously or customarily kept for a period of six (6) consecutive months prior to such construction or occupation of such dwelling shall not require the removal of such rabbits, poultry or domestic fowl from such location.
(Code 1984; Ord. 851)
2-106. Same; cleanliness of premises required.
It is hereby declared to be a nuisance and shall be unlawful for any person to maintain on any premises owned, occupied, or controlled by such person in the city, any chicken coop, rabbit hutch, corral, yard, kennel, stable, cow shed, horse shed, or horse picket line in a foul, offensive, noxious, or filthy condition.

2-103. Prohibited animals.
(d) It is unlawful for any person to keep or maintain roosters (male chickens), guinea cocks, peacocks or other birds that by nature exhibit loud calls, within the corporate limits of the city.
