I have a golden comet that is only about 8 months old. Two days ago I noticed that she was in her roosting box but I thought she was just laying. This morning, this chickens were noisy so I went to check and noticed that she was still in the box: lethargic, laying down, eyes closed, breathing deeply. I brought her inside; there's no evidence of anything wrong, no injuries, all other chickens are fine, I can't figure out what's wrong. Inside the house, I made her comfortable, used a syringe to give her water and a little mushy food. She passed the food/water in about 45 minutes - all diarrhea. She stayed the same way all day. I planned to post this evening to see if anyone had an ideas, but about 30 minutes ago she died.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'd like to avoid this in the future! Thank you.

Without a necropsy it would just be guessing. A sick or dying bird from numerous causes will do what you described. Really a necropsy is the only way to know for sure.
