I have 4 cornish hens, all perfectly healthy, but today I went inside their house to find what looked like the membrane of an egg all over the floor under one of the perches.I looked around for pieces of a shell to see if maybe they pecked an egg open but there was nothing. Looks like one of the hens layed a membrane with no shell or anything. I almost thought it was pee or something, but chickens don't pee. any suggestions on how or why it happened?

Welcome! Chickens do actually "pee". It comes out with their poop. Not every poop, but every few or so. :) as for the shell-less egg, it's not too terribly uncommon, I've found them in my chicken house from time to time. However, I would suggest getting a calcium supplement to add to their feed. Also keep an eye on their egg laying. If they continue to lay shell-less eggs, there could be an underlying issue. Hope this helps!

I have a year and half old hen that lays shellless eggs too. I give them layer, grit and oyster shell .Before the oyster shell she would do it daily now that I added the oyster shell its only a few times a week.So guess it helps.I don't know why she does it but she does.I been looking on all the forums about it and so far this is all I know.My hens all seem healthy other then getting the shellless egg.If anyone knows more please post.

My Limin Chikin just laid a soft shelled egg on the ground, ten hours after she laid me an egg this morning (it was really hard to break). I did worm her earlier, maybe that's why it came out early (won't be getting an egg from her in the am).

She's been acting funny all evening, now I see she had to lay a soft shelled egg. She's still acting off though.
