I have four young chickens all of which started laying about 2 months ago. One of my girls has been egg bound twice. She’s now laying but her vent is constantly prolapsed and the shells of her eggs are strange and the size is very inconsistent. She seems to be in perfectly good health otherwise. She’s not lethargic (in fact quite the opposite) and she’s eating and drinking. I’m not sure what could be causing this or what I can do for her. I am trying to give her more calcium and trying to figure out a vet. Unfortunately I’m on an island and don’t have easy access to a vet.

Welcome To BYC

What do you feed, including treats?
Do you provide oyster shell for Calcium?

She's constantly prolapsed? That's not good especially in a pullet that has just come into lay, does it go back in on its own or do you have treat her each time?

Have your pullets ever had any respiratory illness or symptoms when they were younger?

I'd feed a nutritionally balanced poultry feed and provide oyster shell free choice.
For the one that is having difficulties, I'd give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for 7 days.
