I have a question about one of our hens, or rather, her egg. We have a flock of 10 RIRs, and for the past few weeks, every time I go to collect, I find a pasty white egg, that has a bumpy, almost sand paperish feel to it. I'm guess that its the same chicken laying these, but I haven't singled her out.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

My one RIR lays a rough-textured egg once in a while, but it's always brown. Check your chickens' ears and see if any of them are white instead of brown and you may have found your white egg layer. Or you could have a hen that is just having a problem with her final egg stage, where she puts the color and bloom on the shell. Are the eggs normal inside?

Well,
this seems to be new since they have been laying since last August and this egg condition started only a couple weeks ago. They seem to be normal inside, only lighter, and with a thinner shell. Might this be a condition we would need to treat?

Thanks-
