Help please, I've looked on site for spraddle leg but this is one splayed leg. Can we tape it to straighten? Put a toothpick to rap vetwrap to the other good leg . Hen born late July- is she too old? Don't want to put her and us, through it if so. She just lays and watches the others run and bug. She can run inside, limps fast ,when feed comes. Perch at night on low stick. Not growing. She is not sick,as I first thought. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated!

If it were me, I'd try the spraddle leg treatment if the chick is young enough that the splayed leg can still be worked to the correct position.

My folks had a guinea keet that was splay-legged from the hip - and by the time I saw it the keet was several weeks old and the hip seemed to have grown such that I couldn't work it back into position enough to try to straighten it out. My parents opted against culling because it seemed to be able to drag itself to food and water, but I'm sorry to say the keet did not survive.

Good luck.

dont know if this helps but a vet said it cant be fixed at least not well. Something about the way the joint has rotated that it will just continue to rotate out and is very hard to correct.

With mine he said just make it comfortable and look for belly sores as that is the most common problem they have. Mine did not grow like the others either, (I found him a home btw) But when his new owner tried to get the leg to go back into place there was a "pop" and the leg must have broke (yes I did dsay leave it alone) anyway the chick died after that although the new owner had ALL the best intentions and was just trying to fix. So whatever you do dont force it back into place because tyou can make it worse.

Thank you so much. My husband refused to help me tape the legs as he felt that is exactly what might happen. She is almost 3 months old and this didn't really show so badly until a month ago(or I wasn't sharp enough to figure it out!) Thought she was sick. We will keep her comfortable-put water next to her so she just leans over for it. We are in sunny, hot Florida so she likes to sun. Actually gets around fairly well - our little cripple.
