Chicken (Little, do I know about them :)

Hi, welcome! Some quick advice for newbies. Build your coop and run first. Don't buy a prefab coop. Read the coop pages to see what others have done. Build as big as you can. Start with half the chickens you think you'll want. You can add more later, but you may find you have just enough. If you can't have a rooster, do not buy straight run chicks! Even sexed chicks have at least 10% error rate. Finding pet homes for that sweet little cockerel is hard. Never underestimate predators. Read all the forums, especially about health and behavior. Start a first aid kit. Then, take a deep breath, relax and enjoy your chickens. As questions arise, we are here for you. Chickens are FUN :D
I second to that! Also, in my experience, along with a secure coop, an electric fence is always helpful!
Good luck!

Hi,

I'm happy to have found your site. I'm am very new to chickens. I haven't gotten any yet, so I need a lot of help. We moved to a more country area in November as our previous neighborhood didn't allow for chickens nor having a yard full of veggies/fruits. Now we're ready to learn as much as we can before raising chicks.

I'm a herbalist, so I grow a lot of herbs (not yet at my new place). I dabble in a lot of hobbies: soap making, 3D printing, card making, Vinyl on T-shirts, etc, machine embroidery, murder mystery partying, including creating some myself. Oh yeah, I love games, including escape rooms as well :)

I found out about your site after watching a Youtube video by Oak Abode.

I'm pretty well new to the site myself. I have lurked on and off for years, though. If you have a question, ask it. :) I've just been reading away at both active threads and searching for history on old threads. Welcome to the site.
