I have six chicks - 3 white Jersey giants and 3 sapphire gems. I don’t know their ages. Five are doing well but one sapphire gem is tiny. When I get them, she was the same size as the other two sapphire gems and now all 5 look to be very close in age.

I was afraid she wasn’t eating or drinking so for two days I gave her homemade electrolytes. Second day she took quite a bit. On day three, I was able to get commercial poultry electrolytes with probiotics, vitamin and minerals and I gave her about a half cc and since, it’s been their water. Also on the third day, her vent was clean.

She looks like a tiny bowling ball but weighs nothing. I’ve seen her eat but still, I’m concerned. I really like this little girl and I don’t want to lose her.

Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions?

Cute as a bug’s ear, right?

Could be a runt or failure to thrive . How old ?
I wish I knew their age. They were a surprise. I thought I was picking up chicks so from a woman with chickens but she made a trip to the feed store and found these little cuties for $1 each. She decided they’d make a perfect gift to me so - here we are.

Hmm, they look about ten days to two weeks

If she’s eating, drinking, and happy, I wouldn’t worry too much. Runts happen, some are fine others aren’t.

I had a runt in my turkey clutch this spring. Hatched half the size of all its siblings, now it’s caught up.
That’s my thinking as well. The others aren’t treating her any different, they all dust bathe and snuggle together. I’ve had adults but these are my first chicks since I was a kid.
