Many use 16% layer feed, but many of us find that they really do well on the 20% all flock feed as long as we provide crushed oyster shell inna separate for the layers to take as needed. A scrambled egg can be given to all for an occasional treat.

They are currently on 17% layer Kalmbach. I was thinking of getting them the Kalmbach 20% Protein Full Plume Feathering Chicken Feed for the winter. I know some people feed them that all year round and some only during molting or the winter. I have also heard bad things about too much protein but don't know how true that is.Many use 16% layer feed, but many of us find that they really do well on the 20% all flock feed as long as we provide crushed oyster shell inna separate for the layers to take as needed. Okay awesome. I might just put them on that then. Could I mix it with their 17% feed? We just opened a new bag of it hahahToo much protein is higher than that. 16-20% is pretty standard for protein.
Thank you so much!!!!!!Yes, you can mix it to get them used to it.
Also, the 20% feed is meant to help with molting, but since theyre not molting, does it matter or should i just find an all around higher protein feed? Kalmbach doesn't offer anything else besides that molting/feather fixer one.Yes, you can mix it to get them used to it.
