Like @Ridgerunner I'm going to wait on photos before opining. Likely won't be much help w/ critter identification (though trash panda is high on my list of potentials) but maybe I see a better way to affix your hardware cloth against future challenges.
My next upgrade is going to be chain link fencing. Already use electric fence (string, not net) to protect my pasture, and traps, but losses remain high for me. Possom and fox are my current challenges. and winged predation - but those types are stopped by hardware cloth, so not your culprit.
