Hey fellow chickaholics...
Around what age do hens start laying?
I have 2 Banty hens, a Black Mottled D'uccle and a Black Tailed White Japanese which are both around 3-4 months old...
Their "boyfriends" have already started to mate with them, and they show the mating behaviors... I know that has nothing to do with egg-laying, though..
So how long until I get my first egg?:cd
Thank you

It varies, sometimes a lot. My dUccles generally start laying at about six months of age. I had some show bred Ameracaunas that waited until over ten months of age! Some pullets start at 16 to 18 weeks; can you call the breeder to ask? Mary
