It's possible one of my girls has a broken leg. We felt the joint and it seemed fine but she is not able to stand on that leg. Today she has decided to scoot instead of walk. Lately her balance was getting worse but now I'm worried for the worst and I don't know what to do. I see a red/purple scaling over that leg. Could this be frostbite? One of her toenails is also black and possible damaged. She is otherwise able to eat and drink and seems attentive. However, she is letting me handle her, which is very bizarre for her, without complaint so I'm very, very worried.

Edit: She has now become lethargic. She likely won't make it and I don't know what else to do.

Do you have any pictures? Have you compared by feeling her two legs to see if there's any differences?

One of her leg's feels 'weaker' than the other. The other seems pretty sturdy. It doesn't feel like there is a break, however. I checked her foot for bumblefoot but did not see anything. I'm very worried that I may find her dead in the morning despite her seeming otherwise fine. She came out of the coop to greet me for feeding. When I placed her back in she seemed like her leg got far worse than it had been the last week and she was unable to stand on it. I couldn't have hurt her. I don't know what happened. She's a heavier set type of meat bird (unfortunately) but I do raise her as a pet and this might have led to leg problems.

A lot of meat birds have leg problems. In fact, they're known for that and heart issues. What breed is she exactly? I had a Silver-Laced Wyandotte that was having a leg issue last fall. I questioned if it was due to jumping a lot. I tried to help her get down from her perch and any other places that she'd be jumping down from. Would you be willing to try a sling for a few days till she gets better? I've never done one yet, but maybe this is something that'll help out your hen?

Pictures would be very important to post, especially if frostbite could be a problem. How old is she and was she vaccinated for Mareks. Leg problems are common in meat birds since they are meant to be butchered at a young age.

She's seven months old. I'm not sure if she was vaccinated when I got her but probably not. I don't know whether or not it's Mareks or something else. My other girls are fine. This video is of her a few days ago when she was able to stand but had balance issues. The discolored leg in the video is her hurt leg.

If she recovers I would like to rehome her (and my other birds) and if she dies I would just rehome the others because all of my chickens have been pets and seeing them die one by one is painful. Chickens don't live long, I now understand. I got Sunny (the one with the leg problems) and Happy after my other chicken, Blue, died unexpectedly. I hope she lives as I love all of my birds.

I'm not sure what breed she is as she was supposed to be a leghorn hen. The chicken next to her (in the video) was supposed to be a rhode island red but is possibly a bantam as she is quite small and she is also seven months old. I've never heard of a sling before and don't know how to make one but right now I am desperately trying to save her life so I'll try anything.

Sadly, I don't think she is going to make it. The reason I took that video is because she was having trouble getting her neck back down. While I watching her her beak was actually pointed skywards and she seemed to be stuck. She moved around slowly, balance uneasy. This seemed to resolve itself so I thought she was fine. But now her leg buckled under her and she has to scoot? It sounds like something far more serious was going on. I'm so scared that I'm going to lose another. I don't know what to do. Any recommendations at all would be appreciated.

This is a video of today:

It was around the 17th that I truly noticed that she was having some mobility problems.
