Hello. I am a first grade teacher who uses the chicken raising expereince in my classroom. We incubate and raise the chickens for the first month or so. I never have trouble finding my chickens a home. However, this year I had one chicken hatch with disabled legs. It is not able to stay with the other chickes because they peck at it. I am looking for a home/advice for how to help this little guy. Thanks!!!!!

! Happy you joined us! You might try Craigslist - someone may want to take a crack at rehabilitating the chicken. Good luck to you!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

You may not want to hear my advice, but it sounds like the chick needs to be put down. It will require special care that few will be willing to give, and will not ever live a normal life. Birds that are unable to stand really suffer when they become mature, they develop deformities of not just the legs but the wings and torso as well as they have an abnormal posture, and when they are heavier their added weight leads to problems with feather loss and possibly sores. They are also picked on by other birds, and can't live in a normal social environment. Just another aspect of raising animals - sorry.

Sorry, I agree with 1muttsfan. I hope your kids liked the hatching experience.

There's also a Buy, Sell, Trade section here on BYC, where you can post in the "Animal needs Rehoming" part. But you need to have at least 10 posts (i think) in order to be able to post on there. So, just visit some threads & share your comments & you'll reach 10 in no time
