I have seen chicken netting advertised for making temporary, moveable, "free range" space. It is attached to poles which are placed in the ground and then rolled up when not in use.

Has anyone used this? Will chickens try to sneak under the netting? Our yard is not completely fenced in so we would use this frequently, but under supervision - I don't want any dogs or other neighborhood "guests" to wander in.

Is it unreasonable to consider having a small number of chickens without a fenced-in yard? Our yard is such a weird shape that there really isn't a way to fence it in entirely, but I do want to give the hens time to exercise outside their run as much as possible.

no its not irrational I have done it I have dome large 3 foot tall plastic fencing with metal fence polls so I can roll it up and move it my dog can esialy get in and does to eat the chicken food I am getting some tent stakes so it will be harder for her but it seems to work well It is covered in blue berry netting so that birds of prey have a harder time and also so the hens cant get out I also have CD's out on a string to scare them off but the system seems to work

Thanks - I'm going to look into "roll-upable" fencing. I saw some "chicken netting" at My Pet Chicken, but it's really expensive. I'm sure dh can come up with something good that won't cost quite so much.

If the goal is to keep chickens IN (not keep pred's OUT) then deer netting will work just fine.

AND it's really cheap - about $15 for a 7' by 100' roll. You find it in the landscaping area of Lowes or other hardware store -it's not kept with the wire/fencing.

I think the poultry netting is electrified which is why its so expensive, the electric netting would keep dogs out

my mom said no electiric netting for my dogs but I made the point they already are on an electric fence so she will give in but I cant get it untill I can afford it.

Thanks
Henry
