Chicken Newbie in CT

Hello everyone. I live in Western CT and just got a flock of chicks for my 7yo daughter so she could learn responsibility. It was chickens or a puppy and seeing as I’m now a member here you know what I chose. So far, I couldn’t be happier about our decision. We have 2 Buff Brahmas, 2 Plymouth Rocks, 2 Easter Eggers, and a Buff Orpington. I plan to expand our flock next year if all goes well. I’m building a coop myself on the fly and came to this forum for some general advice and any helpful tips anyone has to offer. The chicks are 2 1/2 weeks old so I still have time to complete my build.

Glad you could join us here! My advise would be make your coop and run as big as you possibly can. It saves a lot of issues in the future. Also predator proof!

Congrats on choosing chickens (although I adore dogs, too, having your pets outdoors is not at all a bad idea)!

I'm also on the "make the coop and run BIGGER" band wagon. But I'll also add that you need a lot more ventilation and windows in your very well constructed coop.
