I got chicks one week ago. Today they began pecking on the tails of two of them. I separated them and put some iodine. Could it be they need more space? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance for your help

Well, I had a problem with one of my Welsummer's pecking everyone else's eyes for the first week, but he eventually stopped, thank goodness. I have heard that using a red heat lamp helps to curb the tendency to peck because they have a harder time seeing the red, irritated skin. Maybe that might help?

temp is important..
what are you keeping them at?

please describe your set up and size of brooder.

what are you feeding them?
are you using chick vitamins?

Thanks to everybody for your help. I kept the two injured chicks separated and put iodine spray until their tails were OK. I moved everybody together to their new coop yesterday (6 feet by 6feet). They are not bothering them anymore. I think it was just too crowded in the brooder (32 chicks!)
